The Faculty of Science University of Peradeniya is one of the leading science faculties in the Sri Lankan university system. The Faculty takes pride in its remarkable contribution bestowed towards national development by promoting education and research in basic and applied sciences.

Faculty admits around 500 undergraduate students annually and offers several Honours Study Programmes; B.Sc. Honours study programmes in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Data Science, Environmental Science, Geology, Mathematics, Microbiology, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Physics, Statistics, Zoology, and in Statistics and Operational Research. The Faculty also offers a B.Sc. study programme in Applied Sciences giving the students an option to exit with a B.Sc. Degree at the end on the third year.

The Faculty consists of 116 well qualified academic staff members out of which 37 members are professors, 53 are senior lecturers and 26 are lecturers. There are 04 academic support staff and 120 non-academic staff to assist the academic programmes offered by the Faculty.

Since the Faculty carries out research activities that lead to innovation and commercialization of products, laboratories are equipped with state of the art equipment obtained through several National and International grants. The research activities carried out by the academic staff and students of the Faculty have led to key publications in indexed journals, national and international awards and recognitions and innovations and commercialization of products.
