A visit to the National Center for Non-Destructive Testing (NCNDT) of the Sri Lanka Atomic Energy Board was made by the fourth-year Physics Honours students and some academic staff members of the Department on the 20th of April 2023.
During the visit, the students witnessed the range of NDT methods carried out at the center, including
- Ultrasonic Testing (UT),
- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT),
- Liquid Penetrant Testing (PT),
- Concrete Testing (CT),
- Conventional Radiographic Testing (RT),
- Digital Industrial Radiography (DIR),
- Visual Testing (VT), and
- Eddy Current Testing (ET).
This was a great opportunity for the students to get an idea about the resources and instruments available in the center. It was also an excellent opportunity for those interested in carrying out a research project in the NDT area to develop feasible research proposals for their Research Project course (PH491).
The visit was concluded with the hope of initiating collaborative research projects in the future between the Department and the NCNDT. The Department extends its appreciation to the Director and his team for making all the arrangements.
