Department of Zoology

The Department of Zoology offers Biology* and Biology** jointly with the Department of Botany and the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at the 1000 Level. Starting from the 2000 Level, the Department conducts a comprehensive course in Zoology encompassing all the basic disciplines such as Animal Diversity, Ecology, Behaviour, Physiology, Genetics, Embryology and Histology. The Department lays stress on the applied aspects of Zoology through conducting courses in Techniques in Zoology, Fisheries, Entomology, Parasitology, Wildlife Management and Environmental Science.

B.Sc. Honours Study Programmes in Zoology and Biology

B.Sc. Honours Study Programme in Zoology

The Department offers Zoology as a principal subject area from 200 Level onwards. Those students who have completed Zoology as a principal subject at the 200 Level are eligible for selection to a Honours Study Programme in Zoology at the end of the second year. Those students selected on a competitive basis to follow the Honours Study Programme in Zoology are given the opportunity to follow courses in a range of areas in Zoology. These students also carryout a research project during the final year of their undergraduate career.

B.Sc. Honours Study Programme in Biology

The Honours Study Programme in Biology, which is administered by the Department of Zoology is offered jointly by the Zoology, Botany and Molecular Biology and Biotechnology departments. Undergraduates in the Biological Sciences stream who have successfully completed Biology* or Biology** programme at the 100 Level and the stipulated course units from Botany, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology and Zoology at the 200 Level are eligible for selection to the Honours Study Programme in Biology.

B.Sc. Honours Study Programme in Biomedical Science

The Honours Study Programme in Biomedical Scienceis administered by the Department of Zoology. Undergraduates in the Biological Sciences stream who have successfully completed Biology* or Biology** programme at the 100 Level and the stipulated course units from Chemistry, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, and Zoology at the 200 Level are eligible for selection to the Honours Study Programme in Biomedical Science.
