Study visits, a powerful tool in a comprehensive education program, complement classroom learning by providing real-world context and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
The topic was on "Impact of Physics in Health and Medical Fields" focusing on understanding the tumor microenvironment and the immune system which was conducted by Prof. Krishni Wijesooriya along with a discussion on Medical Physics related career opportunities in the USA and other countries.
The astronomy laboratory of the Department of Physics was developed by the 2019/2020 Physics Special Batch and was declared open by the Dean of the Faculty of Science on June 26th 2023.

The Astronomical Society of University of Peradeniya organized a guest lecture on the topic “NASA’s New Horizons Mission to Pluto, the Kuiper Belt and Beyond” conducted by Dr. Henry Throop, Astronomer at NASA headquarters in Washington, DC on 15 th December 2022 at the P1 lecture theatre, Department of Physics.
The Pre-conference Workshop for the RESCON23 on "Current trends in photoelectrochemical and photovoltaic materials devices and applications" was successfully held on the 6th of October 2023 at the Postgraduate Institute of Science (PGIS). The workshop was conducted by the research collaborators of the Department from Sweden, India, and Sri Lanka.
Science walks forward on two feet, namely theory and experiment. Sometimes it is one foot which is put forward first, sometimes the other, but continuous progress is only made by the use of both.
