Physics

  • Synthesis of solid and hollow SiO2-TiO2 core-shell nanostructures to enhance the photocatalytic activity of TiO2 nanoparticles. Hollow structure has the best photocatalytic activity of all.
  • The study of UV absorbance of plant pigments to use as UV absorbers in sunscreens, the comparison with the commercially available sunscreens, and the vibrational spectroscopic analysis and experimental FTIR analysis.
  • In early Sri Lanka, ancients used the natural wind to produce iron and steel from ore. A laboratory scale model of such furnaces was built and tested. The aim was to prove that the ancients used the ideal technology to produce iron and steel by their experience.
  • The preparation of agar based gel polymer electrolyte for energy storage devices and electrical and optical properties of F-doped SnO2 nanostructured thin films synthesized by sequential nebulizer spray pyrolysis
  • A diffraction grating based spectrum analyzer was constructed and then, used to investigate the blue light emission of screens of electronic devices and various light sources. Due to the fact that in 2018 Researchers found out that blue light (400 nm-460 nm) led to macular degeneration in humans.
  • Fe@MgO magnetic nanocomposite was synthesized for removal of Pb and methylene blue from wastewater and a recycling process for Fe@MgO was discussed.
  • Left: A diffusion cloud chamber was made to observe ionization tracks of ionizing radiation (mainly alpha, beta and cosmic radiation). Right: A malfunctioning Geiger counter was modified using a high voltage supply technique and an ARDUINO based counter mechanism.
  • An electroconductive, super-hydrophobic smart fabric was prepared by coating with Graphene followed by a surface modification using methyltrichlorosylane.
