In another commendable achievement, Mr. W.M.T.B. Wijesuriya, a Temporary Demonstrator in the Department of Mathematics, was honoured with the Best Presenter Award in the Mathematics and Statistics Track at the 5th Annual International Research Conference on Advancements in Sciences and Humanities (SICASH) 2024. The conference, held on the 4th of December 2024 at Monarch Imperial, embraced the theme “Shaping the Future through Smart Research.”
Mr. Wijesuriya’s award-winning paper, titled “A Multi-Objective Optimization Model to Support Freshly Cut Vegetable Processing Decision,” showcased a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving. This research was conducted under the guidance of an impressive team of supervisors: Dr. U.S.S. Dharmapriya and Prof. Asela Kulatunga from the Department of Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering; Dr. H.D.P. Premarathne from the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Arts; and Dr. S. Daundasekara from the Department of Food Science and Technology, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Peradeniya.
This accolade highlights the importance of collaborative research and the innovative applications of mathematics in addressing real-world challenges. We are immensely proud of Mr. Wijesuriya and his supervisors for their dedication and hard work.
