The Science Education Unit organizes 2-day Science Camps for G.C.E. (A/L) and G.C.E. (O/L) students with the aim of popularizing science among young students by disseminating up-to-date scientific knowledge. These are usually conducted in the remote and under-privileged areas where the facilities for science education are inadequate so as to promote science education through student motivation and active engagement.
Science Camps consist of Lectures, Lecture Demonstrations, Practical Sessions and “Wonders of Chemistry Programme”. Panel of the resource persons of this programme includes Senior Professors, Professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, Demonstrators, Technical Officers, and other supporting staff of the Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya.
These Science Camps are held on weekends and approximately 500 students (200 G.C.E. (A/L) students and 300 G.C.E. (O/L) students) can be accommodated. About 60 members of the Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya participate as resource persons/support staff on voluntary basis.
