"Dissemination of scientific knowledge and popularization of science among the people, especially in the less privileged areas of the country."
The Science Education Unit (SEU) was established at the Faculty of Science of the University of Peradeniya in January 1989 specifically for the purpose of promoting and assisting science education at the secondary level, dissemination of scientific knowledge particularly in underprivileged areas of the country and for the popularization of science among masses utilizing the expertise and the facilities available in the Faculty of Science
The main activities of the SEU includes:
- conducting science camps for the benefit of school children, especially in remote areas,
- conducting training programmes for school teachers,
- publishing low-cost science monographs and books,
- conducting practical programmes for G.C.E. (A/L) students at the Science Education Resource Centre (SERC) established under the SEU in 2013.
At present, the SEU comprises of a Director, two academic staff members, a technical officer and a laborer.
