Merit Award for the Undergraduate Research Project

Mr. M.A.M. Abraj of Department of Statistics & Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya has received a merit award for the undergraduate research project presented in Environmental Science section in 6th Young Research Forum (YSF) symposium organized by the National Science and Technology Commission (NASTEC), Sri Lanka. The symposium was held on 20th January, 2017 at the Agricultural Biotechnology Centre, University of Peradeniya. The title of the presentation is “Analysis of Wind speed and direction data in Hambantota district of Southern Sri Lanka”, and the research was done under the supervision of Prof. P. Wijekoon of the same department.



The extended abstract submitted was reviewed by an expert panel appointed by NASTEC/YSF, and it was published in the Proceedings of the 6th YSF Symposium. The research findings of the Symposium were presented under five sections; Agriculture and Food Science, Environmental Science, Engineering and IT, Biochemistry, medicine and Health Sciences, and Economics and Social sciences, and all presentations were evaluated by a panel of senior scientists. The three (3) best presenters of each session were received a "Merit Certificate" which was awarded by Prof. M.J.S. Wijeyaratne, Chairman, NASTEC.


The YSF symposium was initiated in year 2012 with the objective of providing a forum for young scientists to present and discuss their research findings, and promote collaborations among young professionals in the S&T sector.
