About Me

I received my B.Sc. Degree in Chemistry from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka and Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Arizona, USA. After serving as a Research Associate in the Departments of Biochemistry/Anatomy of the University of Arizona and an Associate Research Scientist in New York University School of Medicine, I joined the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology in 2001 where I served as the Head of Department for nine years. I teach undergraduates in the areas of biochemistry, molecular biology, immunology, virology and bioinformatics and am involved in postgraduate teaching through the Post Graduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya. My current research focus is utilization of environmental microorganism as biological resources.
