Following a policy decision of the University Grants Commission to promote the use of computers in higher education, a computer unit in the Faculty of Science was established in June 1984.
This Unit is opened to all students, those who follow computer Science as a subject and also those who don’t. They use this Unit to do their additional practical works such as assigned practical, type setting of their project reports, tutorials etc.,
All the students’ societies use this Unit to prepare their handouts, souvenirs etc. Unit provides Laser Printouts and Dot-matrix Printouts for the students. All temporary academic staff members, non-academic staff members and PGIS students use this unit for their day-to-day work. From August 2001, students are given the Internet Access at this Unit using the University Network.
Further, the Unit assists all the academic and non-academic staff when they encounter problems in their day-to-day work, using computers. The Computer Unit is planning to purchase more equipment to give better facilities to the students.
