About Me

Currently working as a lecturer at the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya. My research interests include Combinatorial Optimization, Graph theory, Operations Research, Mathematical Biology. I'm currently on study leave following a PhD at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia.

Approximations and heuristics for 2-connected minimum spanning networks

The real-world systems related to these models are relatively easy to conceive and construct and can be communicated effectively in management as visual facsimiles of the real-world system under consideration. For an instance, large-scale interconnection networks have two significant costs known as, the initial infrastructure construction costs and the ongoing operational costs. There is an opportunity to minimize these costs by optimally designing the layout of the network. This can be done across a range of applications by modelling the layout as a mathematical network. Network models in operations research have evolved from the more general theory of graphs. In theory, these algorithms should be able to handle large instances. However, for this problem, few of the heuristics have been implemented and it has been argued that it would not be practical to do so: implementation would be difficult and the resulting algorithms would be slow in practice. In this project, we present an analysis for the approximations and heuristics for the 2-connected minimum spanning sub-graph problem.
